Did you know that laughter is good for your health? Of course, you did! But did you know to what extent? Check this out for yourself.
It seems so easy to include laughter in your daily life; however, according to Psychology Today, ‘The average four-year-old laughs 300 times a day, a 40-year-old, only four.’
I know that it sounds kind of silly, but how can we laugh more often? Here are some ideas:
- Surround yourself with people with a great sense of humor
- Follow a blog that makes you smile: I personally love *LOVE, LOVE, LOVE* my girl from Perpetual Plot Hole. She is ridiculously funny & I adooooore her sketches! You should definitely check her out ❤
- Laugh at the small stuff *WHY NOT?!*
- Don’t forget to laugh at yourself when something silly happens
- Have friends over more often *Yes, indeed! There is communication BEYOND Facebook! Haha!*
- Watch your favorite shows and comedies every now & then
You get the point! The last time I REALLY REALLY laughed *to the point of crying & unintentionally hitting my head on a desk as I was trying not to die* was when I read a review of Haribo Gummy Candy, Sugarless Gummy Bears, 5-pound bag (the very first one called: Just don’t. Unless it’s a gift for someone you hate). Just a quick heads up, don’t, I mean, DON’T, read this review if you are at work right now because you could get fired for an uncontrollable fit of laughter. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you!
Moving on to the workout planned for today. According to the 12-week plan, it’s a 2 Mile Trail Tempo Run with a total duration of 1 hour:
- Warm up 2 miles with a heart rate in zone 2.
- Run 2 miles with a heart rate in zone 4.
- Cool down 2 miles with heart rate in zone 2.
So when was the last time you laughed until your stomach started hurting? Feel free to share links, let’s spread the happiness and laughter on this wintry day!

I think the last time I laughed until I cried uncontrollably was a few years ago when I discovered Hyperbole and a Half and read through her backlog. I’ve laughed pretty hard since but not to that extent where I just couldn’t see straight I was laughing so hard.
Dear Emmeline,
Your laugh is overdue 😀 Now, right now, get off your computer and find something HILARIOUS to laugh about! I’m on a mission to make the world laugh 😀

I loved this. I laugh a lot everyday, it really helps the stress, plus, I have a toddler who is quite the character and he loves to make my husband and I laugh!! A day without laughter is a day without living! Have a great day!
Hi Sara!
OMG! Toddlers ARE funny! Even though I don’t have any kids yet, I saw a couple of Youtube videos of how contageous their little giggling is 😀 Thank you so much for stopping by!

That makes me so sad that we go from 300 laughs a day to 4. We could all use a little more laughter in a day. Great post!
NOOOOO! Don’t be sad! That ruins the purpose of my post because if you are sad, you don’t laugh. So go laugh, even if someone thinks you’re crazy, just find something funny on Youtube and have a great laughing session!

Oh and the last time I laughed really hard was when I was reading Jenny Lawson’s book “Let’s Pretend this never happened” and she talks about her Dad bringing home a dead squirrel in a Cracker Jack box. I was reading in public and just died laughing. Got some strange stares but it was so funny 🙂
Oh I got those too when I was reading Sophie Kinsella’s Shopoholic series 😀 ❤
Laughter is SO important – one of the things I realized this year was that I never laughed FOR REAL when I was sick (so for like five years)! I made it my goal to seek out funny things – and it improves every aspect of my life!
Darling, just click on that link for the gummy bears review, and I PROMISE this bad non-laughing spell with be over 😀 xoxox
Lol, I read that one! So funny! Luckily, I remember laughing so hard I cried for the first time in years in September! It was when I read the second “best of” Amazons reviews. Have you read those?
Nope! I’d love to read it though if you have a link 🙂
Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1001250201
Enjoy!
LOVE this! I had a laughing fit with one of my best friends the other night. We were just being silly, and she said something hilarious that just put me over the edge. Laughing out loud thinking about it now. Thanks for making me smile AGAIN today!
You are very welcome, Michelle! Friends are the best at making us laugh. Thank you very much for stopping by!

I love this post! I didn’t ever realize how much of a great impact a good laugh can add to your life:) You put a smile on my face just reading this, I’m going to have to go hang out with my nieces and nephews and enjoy some good laughs!!
Yay! Glad to hear about it! Children are indeed a great source of joy and happiness *when they are not yours! haha! just kidding!* xoxo
LOL I love the pic of that baby! I always laugh when I see pics like those. Sometimes they hit me so hard I can’t hide it and I end up looking like some crazy person in the middle of Starbucks or the library.
When I need a good laugh (and I’m somewhere with wifi), I go on youtube and look up laughing baby videos. Never fails to crack me up. Laughing babies or farting babies. There’s one video with funny faces babies make when they poop. My stomach always hurts so badly when I watch that because I’m laughing so hard.
Ewwww! Sounds nasty but I’ll have to look it up! Also I’m the same way, Katie, I laugh like there is no tomorrow and a bunch of worried looks will never stop me haha! BTW I haven’t forgot about emailing you back, I just can’t get around it, I’m putting a reminder for myself to do it tonight! xoxo
Love this post! Made me smile. I have laughed to the point of crying at Hyperbole & a Half (@emmelineruns do you know Allie has a book out??) and at least weekly because of my kids–most recently, my husband had an alien finger puppet at the dinner table and our toddler had no idea it was my husband controlling it…his face was priceless, and he kept saying, “But YOOK, don’t you see that guy over there??”
That is pretty funny! My goal is to make all possible foam hairdos to my future children ahaha! Also I had no idea that Allie had a book out, I’ll have to look into it 🙂 Thank you for stopping by! xoxo
What a shame we don’t laugh as much as we used to! I love laughing. (I hear it’s a good impromptu ab workout)
Oh yeah, it’s a very painful workout too, especially if you can’t stop laughing 😀
Try laughter yoga, pretty weird but can also be hilarious, apparently the body can’t distinguish between a fake laugh and a real one I.e. Even if you fake a laugh you get the same health benefits :-)))))) xxx
Omg! I’ve learned something new today, I had NO idea it existed. Thank you sooo much for letting me know & stopping by my blog! xoxo
Love this! I put on some comedy Pandora stations while I make dinner at night. John Mulaney Radio and Donald Glover Radio are my faves…helps to get some extra laughs in! 😉 Also, I’m now counting it as exercise.
Haha! Emily, that’s right! Depending on the intensity of your laughs you can probably count it as Tabata or HIIT workout 😀 Listening to comedy stations is also a great way to bring some positivity AND laughs to our life. Thank you so much for stopping by!
xoxo
