How To Convince Your Lazy Friend To Be Your Workout Buddy

First of all, my dear lazy friend, you know who you are, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!

To the rest of you, we’ve all got a friend who constantly tells you that she would love and possibly should join you in your fitness endeavors, and yet there is always something. It could be a lack of time, too much stress, too many shows to watch *haha!*, in other words, excuses, excuses.

So I thought, why not help my friend out with her fitness quest, and at the same time help you all to *HOPEFULLY* get a gym buddy! Here are the results of my brainstorm session:

  • Go to a sportswear store with your friend and buy some CUTE workout clothes together. Make sure to go all the way out: shoes, pants, nice tops. It’s always fun to show off your sexy curves in a new cute outfit at the gym! *Girls, you KNOW it!*
  • Sign up for a fun class together. I heard that pole dancing is an insane workout! I’m sure that your friend’s significant other will appreciate it too and will even help you out just to get her there! Haha! Fine… Hot yoga or Zumba could be fun too!
  • Bring your friend to check out your gym, using a free pass that you normally get when signing up or renewing your membership. If she likes it, suggest starting out with a seasonal membership to feel less pressured. Plus, who likes to workout at the gym in summer, anyway?!
  • Register NOW for a fun race in early spring! That’s great motivation to keep on exercising regularly for you and your girlfriend.
  • Try out different classes at the gym; it’s like bar hopping, just healthy! WORD!
  • Suggest reading some fun fitness magazines or blogs *UHEM! Haha!* for her to learn more and to get pumped up for the next work out or challenge!

Sexy Legs Pyramid

Okay, fine… Actually, it’s called Lean Legs Pyramid, but I figured LEAN = SEXY; thus, Sexy Legs Pyramid was born. Fair enough?

This week I decided to share with you yet another quick but EFFECTIVE workout *hey! something is better than nothing!*, which is perfect for the holiday season. Also, it’s a great add-on to your regular workout routine when your time is not limited.

I got a hold of this workout when I told a friend of mine that I was going to try for the Spartan Trifecta next year. And… OUFFFF… let me tell you, it definitely got my fat crying haha! In all seriousness though, my legs loved it and ‘rewarded’ me with some pleasant soreness next morning. In my mind, SORENESS = FIT and that’s exactly how I love to feel during holidays when there is an abundance of food and temptation.

* SQUATS help you run faster and make your booty BOOTILICIOUS *you get what I mean!*
* LUNGES improve core strength.
* TOE TOUCHES stretch and strengthen your hip flexor muscles and quadriceps.
* WALL SITS can help transform your body from ‘mehhh’ to ‘ou la la’ since multiple muscles are involved.
* JUMPING JACKS get your heart rate up and BURN fat! Gosh, it sounds great!

How to go about it?

  • 20 squats
  • 30 lunges
  • 40 toe touches
  • 50 second wall sit
  • 100 jumping jacks
  • 50 second wall sit
  • 40 toe touches
  • 30 lunges

There you go! Make those sexy legs shake!

Forever Young

Today is a very special day: it is my mother-in-law’s birthday! She’s turning the big 50! So first and foremost, I would like to wish her a Happy Birthday!

I remember my dad turning 50 two years ago. If my memory doesn’t betray, he was somewhat depressed for a couple of weeks prior to his birthday and didn’t even want to talk about celebrating it. So what we did, we surprised him! *POOR GUY!* And I don’t blame him, it’s a big milestone! But then, on the day of, he said: “Screw this, I’m still young! 50 is the new 30! I’m going to enjoy my life to the fullest!”*GO DAD!*

In my opinion, we put too much thinking into it. 30, 40, 50 – they are only numbers… And we dread them! I still have a few years to go, but jeez, I’m dreading 30!!! Aren’t you?! But then, as they say, you’re only as young as you feel. I couldn’t agree more! *It does help that I look 18 without makeup!!! Haha!*

Of course, there are multiple factors that affect the way we feel and look, like our diet and lifestyle. However, today I would like to focus on stretching. Stretching exercises can help you not only to loosen up your whole body, they can help you age gracefully! *Personally, I’m sold!* Furthermore, better flexibility can decrease risk of injuries and improve your overall physical performance.

If you choose to be lazy, your muscles will tighten with age, which will obviously affect your lifestyle since your joints won’t have the same range of motion. And it’s a big NO-NO!

As someone who runs a lot *and as a gymnast by training*, stretching is my life savior: it reduces stress, helps weight loss, eases pain, and even improves my running time!!! How can you say no to this, HELLO?!?!

One of my favorite websites lately has been Runner’s World. Not so long ago, I found an interesting article on stretching there, and I would love to share with you a few exercises that have been really helpful. *Please, make sure that you warm up prior to doing any of them.*

Triangle

Benefits:

  • strengthens the thighs, knees, and ankle
  • helps relieve stress
  • helps relieve the symptoms of menopause
  • relieves backache

Pyramid

Benefits:

  • Stretches the spine, shoulders and wrists (in the full pose), hips, and hamstrings
  • Strengthens the legs
  • Helps digestion

Quadriceps Stretch in Lunge

Benefits:

  • Stretches the front leg’s hamstring and the back leg’s hip flexors and quadriceps
  • Reduces stress
  • Improves circulation

Pigeon Forward Fold

Benefits:

  • Stretches the thighs, groins and psoas, abdomen, chest and shoulders, and neck
  • Stimulates the abdominal organs

Head to Knee

Benefits:

  • Stretches the spine, shoulders, hamstrings, and groins
  • Relieves anxiety, fatigue, headache, menstrual discomfort
  • Therapeutic for high blood pressure and insomnia

Happy baby

Benefits:

  • Gently stretches the inner groins and the back spine
  • Reduces tension in the back
